Why are emails sometimes sent back to me as 'Returned to Sender' or 'Mailer Daemon' errors?
If an email you send cannot be successfully delivered, it will be sent back to you. This notification will appear in your Inbox as a message from Mailer Delivery Subsystem or Mailer Daemon.

One of the most common reasons for failed message delivery is an incorrect destination email address. A message cannot be delivered unless the email address you type in is 100% accurate so, it is important to be particularly careful with spelling, capital letters and hyphens. An email address will always contain the @ symbol, so check this was included.

It is important to read the text of the returned email, as it will give you hints about what may have gone wrong. Incorrect email addresses are not the only reason for having your emails ‘Returned to Sender’. Other causes may be the mailbox that you are sending to has exceeded its capacity, the email account may have closed down or there could be a technical problem at the other end.
